Decked out in their best Halloween attire, riders from all over Ohio (and few from out of state) were throwing down their gnarliest lines at the Oktoberfest Slide Jam. More importantly, everyone was enjoying the company of their community and friends. In the words of organizer Tom Foley “Today, we are stoked to be in the presence of like-minded people.”
After a short time of warm up and free-skate, we got down to business and ran 15 minute judged heats for each category, followed by the finals. Despite some light rain and freezing cold weather, riders were hitting some gnarly tricks and going big on their slides.
Oktoberfest Slide Jam 2013 Recap
In the Open category, Justin Malisiak took first place with his crazy variations, like the insane one-footed stalefish maneuver that blew our minds. Drew Hafner came in second impressing the judges with his incredibly smooth style, quick rotations, and big ‘ol standies. Both Justin and Drew ride for “Six Four Boards” a newer company from Ohio.
In the groms category Deming Haines took first place landing tricks like a nice long toeside to 360 slide shuv-it out. Overall Nordik rider Deming has a very clean style and a bag of tricks nearly as deep as his trick-or-treat sack. I am proud to have taken second place in this awesome event, and would like to thank Blue Sky Longboards and LegitBoardShop.com for their support.
In the lady-shredders category, Jennifer Lynn took first place, for good reason; she was killing it all day. Megan Seibyl took second; with her flowing style she gave everyone a run for their money. Bree Jones placed third, taking one home for “Fast as Fun Productions.”
The Oktoberfest Slide Jam proved to be an awesome jam in its first year. They are already considering making it an annual event because everybody had such a good time. I’d like to extend a huge thanks to all of the sponsors for making it possible, and providing some sick prizes. Also thanks to Isaiah Williams, Tom Foley and Jonathon James Smith for putting it all together.
I hope everyone is stoked for next year, if you’re around Ohio, you should definitely come out to chill with the homies, see some rad skating, and have a chance at some steezy prizes. Take a minute to check out the gallery of photos from the event.
